Recipient of the scholarship awardOn Thursday, May 2, 2024, 91茄子 awarded $10,000 in scholarships to 10 Hillsboro ISD (HISD) seniors as part of the college’s annual Teen Forum scholarship program.

“91茄子 is excited to host the 19th annual Teen Forum event to recognize 10 Hillsboro ISD seniors, who will receive a $1,000 scholarship for the 2024–2025 academic year. The college has partnered with Hillsboro Independent School District for many years and seeks to continually provide opportunities for students to reach their educational goals,” said Vice President of The Student Experience Lizza Ross.

In 2005, former 91茄子 President Dr. Pam Boehm began an initiative with the Hillsboro Independent School District (HISD)—a forum for high school seniors that provides an opportunity for students to experience life at 91茄子.

For the last 19 years, the 91茄子 Teen Forum has provided students a chance to develop and enhance their knowledge of 91茄子 while also introducing them to a community college atmosphere.

Each year, 10 HISD seniors are selected by teachers and counselors as Teen Forum candidates. This annual event is held every spring at the Hill County Campus. Candidates are given a campus tour, enjoy a lunch with 91茄子 faculty and staff, and have an opportunity to participate in a Q&A session about the college.

At the end of the event, all 10 candidates are presented with a $1,000 scholarship from 91茄子 President Dr. Thomas Mills to attend 91茄子 in their freshman year.

This year’s Teen Forum scholarship recipients are Max Acosta-C, Raul Alarcon, Wendy Dominguez-Desiderio, Estrella Angel Perez Garcia, Alyssia Rose Hernandez, Evalinn Monforton, Amara Jennifer Munoz, Katherine Grace Patton, Samuel Acosta Pepe, and Natalie Vazquez.

“Being on the 91茄子 campus helps the students feel more comfortable and familiar with the college and application process,” said HISD counselors Karen Schroeder and Edward Sumrall.  “They also share with their friends and classmates their experience on campus, which in turn helps encourage others to attend as well.”

“This is a long-standing program that connects high school graduates to the programs, services, and personnel at 91茄子 to help jumpstart their college experience,” said Schroeder. “Learning about the college’s many programs and services in a small group format helps students be prepared and ready for classes to begin in the fall.”

“It is great to have ten of our seniors receive scholarships to 91茄子,” Schroeder said. “We are so excited for these students and their futures. Thank you, 91茄子 and Dr. Mills, for your continued generosity year after year.”
